What the heck is Kawakawa Balm?
Kawakawa is a native New Zealand bush whose leaves have famously anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial and analgesic properties. Treebrush Apothecary balms infuse these leaves into a skin-nourishing carrier oil, then blend with natural butters and waxes, a few choice essential oils, and packaged in convenient, reusable tins/jars to create a smooth, creamy kawakawa balm. It can soothe and help to heal all manner of angry skin – bug bites, dry or cracked skin, chapped lips, cuts, scrapes, abrasions, eczema & psoriasis, razor burn, overwashed hands, and so much more. The limit is your imagination!
Why Thun?
Thun is a slick and malleable kawakawa balm that smooths on easily (hence the name) and leaves a soft barrier on the skin. Kawakawa leaves are steeped in gentle, hydrating sweet almond oil, then blended with nourishing shea butter – known for its anti-inflammatory, moisturising, healing properties – and beeswax to create a balm designed to hydrate, soothe and protect angry skin. Finally, a dash of mānuka essential oil provides extra antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory power to this delicious balm.
Thun is great for very dry or angry skin, and provides a subtle barrier. Made with sweet almond oil and shea butter, this balm was made with skin conditions like eczema in mind.
Give it a try if you have: cracked heels or elbows; eczema or itchy and irritated skin; chapped or cracked lips; dry or damaged cuticles; sore, overwashed hands; or razor burn. Kawakawa balm may also help with bruises and joint pain.

Which size to choose
One of the big differences between Treebrush Apothecary’s offerings and the rest of the pack, aside from superior texture and divine creaminess, is size options. Seriously. We understand that sometimes you just want to try a bit of everything, and sometimes you want to share a tub with the whole family!
10mL “Mini” tin: Aside from fear-of-commitment sized, our 10mL Minis are pocket-sized, lip balm-sized, whoops-there-you-are-sized, glovebox-sized, Santa mode-sized, take-on-an-adventure-sized! The most popular size sold. Grab this if you want to try before committing to a bigger vessel, compare products against each other, or want several to share around as gifts.
30mL tin: This is the one to get when you’ve got a favourite in the range, or want some mileage beyond just lips! If you’ve got quite a few places you like to load kawakawa balm onto, or you’re sharing, 30mL will last you a wee while. It’s also perfectly sized to slip into hiking packs, beach bags, or handbags for busy people and adventurers.
60mL amber jar: The serious business size. Some folks absolutely swear by kawakawa balm and use it in all manner of places. Some use it as a massage balm. Some have a pot for the whole family. In every case, this size is the one filling these boots!
To use: take a small amount of balm and gently massage into the affected area until it absorbs. If the balm is cold, you may find it easier to run your fingernail across it backwards. It can also be used as a lip balm – a little goes a long way.
